Decision-based story
Can you make it to the last chapter without dying?
Tales of the Black Death Saga is a three-book series set during the Black Plague era. The books are novelizations of a previously released video game.
The story follows a fixed narrative, while allowing the reader to make approximately 20 life-or-death choices in each book. These decisions determine whether the main character survives and lead to one of three possible endings. The book is structured as a “can you make it to the end without dying” adventure.
Each chapter is accompanied by a black-and-white illustration, reinforcing the historical setting and tone. Together, the series combines linear storytelling with reader choice and illustrated fiction.

As this was my first time reading a "choose your own path" story, I wasn't too sure what to expect. A story in which the reader decides how the story ends is such a unique concept, and it was so much fun to read! Because my choices mattered so much, I found myself really thinking carefully about what to choose and was able to insert myself as the main character. The author was not kidding about being careful what you choose. I reread the story a couple of times just to see where the other endings took me. Definitely will recommend!!
This was another great choose your own adventure book in the Tales of the Black Death Saga series, it had that suspenseful atmosphere that I was looking for from the previous two books. Ianic Mathieu was able to create something that I was wanting and enjoyed in a choose your own adventure and enjoyed the three endings of this. It had that historical element that I wanted and enjoyed learning about England in the time of the Black Death.
All right, all right. This is my first time reading such a book, the way it is made is absolutely fascinating and makes the reading experience so different, everything is really immersive, from the diary entries, to the doodles etc. I am really glad I picked up the book as an arc reader, I do not regret it one bit.
