Dr. Novak's Puzzle Book
Dear academia, While sifting through Dr. Novak’s belongings after his… well, what was it exactly? Suicide? Internment at the Royal State Psychiatric Hospital? An arrest? Let’s just call it a sad and unfortunate ordeal. In any case, tucked away in his desk, behind a signed copy of Dr. Pokorny’s The Hidden Persona, we discovered a peculiar puzzle book. The book is a patchwork of torn pages, cryptic notes, unsettling sketches, mazes, and a series of bizarre tests and questionnaires—typed up on his typewriter (or perhaps he forced Mrs. Ruzicka to type it all up). Strangely enough, it seems Dr. Novak was attempting to create his own unique psychological tool to evaluate patients. Or rather, a twisted, deranged version of one. We all remember his dark descent into delirium. To further investigate this unsettling matter, we have chosen to share his disturbing creation with you. Perhaps you can make sense of it. Dr. Novak seemed to believe this book functioned as some sort of psychological test for his patients, but the truth remains unclear. In the name of science and the ongoing research into mental illness and dementia, we present this book to you unaltered. However, to protect the innocent, we urge you to proceed with caution. We are still unsure of the effects a book like this might have on the general population… or on a mind like yours.

Once again from this author! It was witty and weird and funny. Written very well from the characters POV. So happy to have the chance to review another one of their books!
I want to start by saying that I did read Catalyst and that even if it is said the book can be read/done without reading, I found it really helpful, it is easier to get into Dr. Novak's head with the pages. Once again it's a format I really loved, and I had a lot of fun doing the puzzles even if I found myself staring into the void more than once. It was the perfect blend of fun and complicated. I, once again, recommend this book, 100%. You may read about madness with the Dr, but make sure Madness is not lurking in the corner.
